How to Enter the WRL Photo Contest
Please read the following rules carefully.
Who: The White Rock Lake Conservancy is hosting the 6th Annual Photo Contest open to all photographers of any age. Your entry to the contest constitutes your agreement to allow your photographs – and your name, city and state of residence, and school and grade for youth participants – to be published as award winners, or used on websites owned by The City of Dallas and sponsors, for promotions for the White Rock Lake and the Conservancy. Entrants retain ownership to use of their photographs. The Conservancy and sponsors shall have the right to verify, in their sole judgment, winner eligibility.
Divisions: Photographers must enter their images in one of the following divisions:
- Pro – Photographers whose income depends on photography.
- Amateur – Beginning or amateur photographers at least 19 years of age, and experienced photographers who do not receive a major part of their income from photography.
- Youth – Young photographers aged 18 or under.
Legal Conditions: By entering, participants warrant that his or her entry materials are original and do not infringe on any third party’s rights. By entering, participants release and hold harmless the City of Dallas and sponsors from any liability. If a recognizable person is in the photograph, a model release must be submitted with the entry and liability is limited to the value of prizes. All decisions by the WRLC Photo Contest judges will be final and binding.
What: We are looking for striking images of wildlife, the wooded areas, architecture/structures, and the lake/bays. These images may show animal behavior, portraits of wildlife in natural habitat, plant life, natural landscapes, weather or people interacting with nature or on and around the lake. Please do not include photographs of pets or domestic animals. Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. We also encourage copies of historical photos at White Rock Lake to be submitted.
All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, adjustments to color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. Upload a maximum of two (2) photos per photographer.
When: Deadline for submitting entries is September 6, 2016. Online entries can be uploaded starting May 15, 2016 and must be uploaded no later than midnight September 6, 2016. Winners will be notified at the reception on October 5th at 5:30pm at Comerica Bank, 6260 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas.
Why: A selection of winning photos will appear on the White Rock Lake Conservancy website, marketing materials and in the 2017 White Rock Lake calendar produced by the Conservancy.
Prizes: Cash prizes will be awarded to winning images in each category for the Pro, Amateur and Youth divisions. The place winners 1, 2, 3 and honorable mentions will be determined at the judges’ discretion.
Judges: A panel of photographers and Board Members will judge the contest.
How: Each participant may submit up to two (2) photographs. Entrants must designate the appropriate division in which all their images are to be judged. Participants can submit color or monochrome prints (size 11”x14”) or digital images at 300 dpi.
Mailed or shipped entries: Each photograph must bear the photographer’s name, address, phone number, email address (if applicable), category and entry number (1 or 2). Also, include this information on a separate, single sheet of paper with the division you are entering. All prints must be sent together as one package.
