Floats were only the beginning in 100 days of events celebrating White Rock Lake. Darren Boruff and Reena Morris, Co-Chairs of the WRL Centennial, are joined by Sheffie Kadane, City Council Representative for District 9, and Park Board President Joan Walne to kick off the 100-day celebration. Jim Weber, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Comerica Bank, says a few words about Comerica's Title Partnership and the events to come. Ebby Halliday Realtors were in force for the Kick-off along with Sheffie Kadane. Sally Rodriguez and Willis Winters both gave the audience information on the past and future of White Rock Lake. Mrs. Mary Poss, Realtor and Former Mayor Pro Tem served as Emcee of the luncheon. Over 800 people brought their pups with them to the Raise the Woof! Pup Rally, sponsored by the Mockingbird Dog Park. The agility course kept the four-legged friends busy! Volunteers from Comerica brought their pups in support of the event. Vendor and Pet Adoption Agencies filled the Dog Park lot. Centennial Merchandise was a big hit. A Grand Centennial Celebration was held for Mrs. Ebby Halliday on April 3, 2011 at the Dallas Arboretum. Mrs. Halliday was the Honorary Chair of the Comerica White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration. Over 300 attendees gathered for the intimate dinner. Gloria Campos served as emcee and helped honor Mrs. Halliday's accomplishments. Charles Gummer, Chairman of Texas Market at Comerica Bank, and his wife, Cindy Gummer with Ebby Halliday at the dinner. Mrs. Halliday receives a standing ovation for the lifetime of contributions she has given to Dallas and White Rock Lake. The White Rock Lake Conservancy hosted the Centennial Golf Tournament at Tenison Golf Course on April 4, 2011. Joan Kessler, Kyle Smith and Robert Shive (not shown) chaired the Tournament. A 10 panel exhibit featuring the past, present and future of White Rock Lake was on display at NorthPark Center from April 13 - June 26, 2011. The Centennial Exhibit being read by shoppers at NorthPark Center. Special thanks goes to NorthPark Center, Banowetz + Company and Sally Rodriguez and Willis Winters for their contributions to the exhibit. The exhibit was displayed at the Dallas Public Library and other venues through the end of the year. The White Rock Lake Conservancy held a fashion event at Neiman Marcus on April 13, 2011 to raise funds for the White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration. Raymond and Sanka Stalcup, Co-Chairs for the Fashion Event here with Roopal Patel, Senior Market Editor of Women's Accessories for Neiman Marcus.  Ms. Patel gave the 200 women at the event fashion advise for the summer. Models show off latest fashion trends. Models show off latest fashion trends. An event-goer takes advantage of the eyelash and lipstick bar. The Dallas Running Club hosted the White Rock Lake Centennial Half Marathon. Over 2,200 runners came out to participate. Winner, Iain Ridgway clocked a time of 1:19:47 for the half marathon. Volunteers from Bishop Lynch High School provide water and snacks to the runner at White Rock. Sharks won the White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration Little League Tournament on May 15, 2011. The baseball fields were installed at Winfrey Point in 2010. The Comerica Lakewoodstock participated in the White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration on Sunday, May 15, 2011. Bands play all day on 3 different stages at Lakewoodstock. Kids enjoy arts and crafts at one of the many booths. Lakewoodstock, an annual event, was the largest yet with hundreds of activities and thousands of people attending. As the sun sets, Lakewood Shopping Center, site of Lakewoodstock, is still full of activity. Boats line up on the cloudy day, May 21, 2011, for the White Rock Boat Club's Centennial Regatta. Over 50 boats participated in three different races. Mark Hoesterey shows off his sailing skills. A young sailor takes to the lake for a lesson at the Regatta. Sailors and volunteers enjoy lunch after the day of racing. The Centennial Celebration was proud to be a part of the inaugural Carry the Load 20 hour and 11 minute tribute to the soldiers and families of the US military over Memorial Day weekend. Here, veterans participate in the opening celebration. Over 400 people participated in Carry the Load over Memorial Day weekend at White Rock Lake. A group of Marines prepare for their trek around the lake. Each participant was asked to carry the load of someone else as they did 1-4 laps around the lake. Volunteers with Heroes on the Water carry a telephone pole with the words Paddle Fish Heal. One of the groups benefiting from CTL, Heroes on the Water give wounded soldiers and opportunity to go on fishing trips on adaptive kayaks. Firemen carried hoses in rememberence of lost breathren Volunteers stay through the night to encourage the 70+ participants that walked the entire 20 hours and 11 minutes. Cyclists line up for the Centennial Bike Ride on June 7, 2011 at T&P Hill. The participants grab a bite after the honorary 9-mile lap around the lake Host committee members and Greater Dallas Bicycle Association members participatied as well as volunteered at the event. The White Rock Lake Conservancy hosted the Centennial Team Bass Fishing Tournament at White Rock Lake. White Rock Boat House provided their facility to over 55 teams and volunteers. Both professional and amateur fisherman caught bass as large at 7lbs near the dam and close to the banks. Teams used idle speed to troll across the lake looking for bass. During the pre-registration at Dick's Sporting Goods Friday evening, a confident Tommy Climer stated he was on a solid bite and he proved it Saturday as the Climer brothers boated an impressive 16.62 limit which was anchored by a 5.29 kicker to seal the win. Both the Corinthian Sailing Club and the White Rock Boat Club held an open house on June 25, 2011 for the public. Guests gather at the Corinthian Club to watch the wooden boat show on the water of White Rock Lake. Over 50 boats took a lap around White Rock Lake including by the Bath House where the Beach Party of the Century was taking place. Kayakers join the parade by the Mockingbird bridge. The finale weekend was a hit with the Beach Party of the Century at the Bath House Cultural Center on June 25 and June 26, 2011. For the Love of the Lake put on a fabulous weekend with support from the White Rock Foundation and Friends of the Bath House Cultural Center. Highland Park Cafeteria provided the food for the Beach Party including a gourmet picnic lunch on the Veranda Sunday afternoon. Some guests attend the beach party in period attire. The antique car show put art on wheels. Bands entertain the crowds from the main stage. Both Saturday and Sunday featured impressive musical talent. A spectacular fireworks show lights up the night sky at White Rock Lake! The finale event of the 100 day celebration was a concert at the Arboretum on June26, 2011 featuring Hard Nights Day. Over 700 attendees enjoy music by Hard Days Night as they watch the sun set on the Comerica White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration. Jerry Allen, Darren Boruff, Reena Morris, Rachel Wright, Pat Faubion and Sheffie Kadane close out the Centennial Celebration. Concert goers browse the Art Sale at the Arboretum where over 50 artists donated works depicting the lake. A Centennial volunteer brings art to the Concert attendees.

Centennial Celebration

This citywide event, led by Ebby Halliday as Honorary Chair, highlighted the rich history of east Dallas and the lake as well as outdoor activities at the lake. The Celebration was hosted by organizations all committed to the preservation and improvement of this signature park. Proceeds from the 100 days of events went to help fund 10 capital improvements project at the lake.
